The Rules of Caribbean Stud Poker

The rules of Caribbean stud poker are similar to those of five-card stud. One major difference is that in Caribbean stud poker the player plays against the house rather than against other players. While following poker rules players should pay attention towards proper poker etiquettes, so game will be the more enjoyable.

  • To begin, every player wishing to join the hand places his or her ante on the layout until the dealer announces, "No more bets". If a player wishes to contribute to the progressive jackpot (see below), he or she must also insert a $1 chip into the slot on the table before bets have been called. (Make sure that the indicator light is ON after inserting your chip!)

  • The dealer then deals five cards face down to each player and himself. The dealer reveals one of his cards, and then the players are allowed to look at their cards. Players may only look at their own cards, and may not discuss their cards with other players.

  • At this time, players have the option to play or fold. All players who fold lose their antes. All players who wish to play place their bets (equal to twice their respective antes) on the layout.

  • Once all bets have been placed, the dealer reveals his hole cards. As in Blackjack, the dealer's actions are based on the cards dealt:

    • If the dealer does not hold at least a king or higher (see below), the dealer will fold, and all players still in will receive even money (1:1) on their ante only.
    • If the dealer does hold a king, an ace, or any higher poker combination, then the dealer will play. One by one the dealer will compare his or her hand with each player's. If the player's hand beats the dealer's, the player will receive even money (1:1) on the ante, plus a payoff on his or her bet depending on the player's hand:

      Royal flush 100:1
      Straight flush 50:1
      Four of a kind 20:1
      Full house 7:1
      Flush 5:1
      Straight 4:1
      Three of a kind 3:1
      Two pair 2:1
One pair or high card 1:1

    • If the dealer's hand beats the player's, the dealer will collect both ante and bet.

Another feature of Caribbean stud poker is the progressive jackpot option. Any player who has contributed to the jackpot and who holds a flush or higher will win the following, regardless of whether he or she wins the table bet:

Royal Flush 100% of the Jackpot
Straight Flush 10% of the Jackpot
    Four of a kind $500
    Full house $100
    Flush $50

On the off chance that more than one player at the table is holding a royal flush and has contributed to the progressive jackpot, those players will share equally in the winnings.

(Note: These and all numbers listed above may vary from casino to casino, so be sure to double check them at your particular location!)
